Trinidad James – All Gold Everything

“All Gold Everything” is the breakthrough 2012 debut single by Atlanta-based rapper Trinidad James (Nicholaus Williams). Released independently in 2012 as the lead single from his debut mixtape Don’t Be S.A.F.E., the song quickly became a viral phenomenon and defining cultural anthem of the early 2010s trap era.

Produced by Devon Gallaspy, the track is renowned for its minimalist, heavy-bass production, simplistic yet incredibly catchy hooks, and James’s eccentric, flamboyant persona. With its iconic “Popped a molly, I’m sweatin'” refrain, the song was inescapable on the radio, in clubs, and on social media. Its massive, sudden popularity triggered a major label bidding war, resulting in James signing a highly publicized $2 million joint venture deal with Def Jam Recordings in December 2012.

The single was officially re-released through Def Jam on December 20, 2012, and ultimately peaked at number 36 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It achieved RIAA platinum certification, and an official remix soon followed, featuring Southern hip-hop heavyweights T.I., Young Jeezy, and 2 Chainz. Years later, the song experienced a major cultural resurgence and generated significant revenue for James when its melody and famous “Don’t believe me, just watch” line were heavily sampled by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars on their global 2014 smash hit, “Uptown Funk”.
