Starlito – Serenity Ft. Kevin Gates

“Serenity” is a raw, deeply introspective southern hip-hop masterpiece by Tennessee rapper Starlito (Allatawan Smith), featuring fellow southern lyrical heavyweight Kevin Gates. Released on May 24, 2013, as a standout track from Starlito’s acclaimed mixtape Cold Turkey, the song serves as an uncompromising, heavy-hearted meditation on trauma, survival, and the endless pursuit of inner peace amidst a chaotic world.

Produced by a talented beatmaker collective, the track is anchored by a somber, cinematic instrumental driven by a haunting piano melody, weeping string samples, and a slow, trunk-rattling trap-soul drum groove. Eschewing flashy club aesthetics, the moody backdrop sets an intensely serious, confessional tone.

• Starlito opens the track with his signature deadpan, conversational delivery, unpacking the heavy psychological toll of street life, the pain of lost friends, betrayal, and the struggle to maintain mental clarity while dealing with the constant weight of paranoia.
• Kevin Gates delivers a deeply emotional, melodic guest verse and a soaring, soul-baring chorus, matching Starlito’s vulnerability with his distinct blend of raw street grit and wounded passion.

Elevated by its unflinching honesty and powerful chemistry between two revered underground legends, “Serenity” stands out as a defining anthem in Starlito’s catalog, capturing the exact therapeutic, late-night grit that defines modern southern conscious street rap.
